Thank you to Lauren, a local resident who wrote in with the following note, and to Nourhy of NOW Studio, a Holistic Health & Healing Center at 2515 N. California Ave. for both donating to the laptop fundraiser yesterday.  As previously reported, our laptop was stolen on July 18th from a business on the 1500 block of North Milwaukee Ave. We’ve raised $255 $306 toward our new laptop and are very grateful for reader support!

“Hi! I’m a devoted reader and I’d like to contribute money for your new computer but I couldn’t find where to do it on PayPal. Could you please send me a link to the page? Thanks! Also, I was really pleased to see the response you received regarding taking care of the rats from the owner of the lot where the green parking lot will be built on Milwaukee. We have a couple “resident” outdoor cats who patrol the neighborhood, but despite their impressive hunting skills, they are no match for the exploding rodent population in the neighborhood!

If you would like to donate to the fundraiser as well, visit paypal.com and send your donation of any amount-  even $1 would make a huge difference if everyone who subscribes to newsletter kicked in a buck-  to “chicagopipeline@gmail.com.”

In addition to Lauren and Nourhy, thanks also to Anonymous, Danette Chavez, Chris Riegel, Leah Viands, Meredith C., Stephanie Thompson, and Anne Shaw. Your names will be included in the printed holiday magazine in a special thank you section.

In area news, via NBC News, a 34-year-old man was injured while using a chainsaw during a construction accident yesterday morning (Aug. 18th) on the 1600 block of North Milwaukee Ave.  According to a worker at Red Hen Bread, 1623 N. Milwaukee Ave, an ambulance took the man away from the site of the future Walgreen’s, 1601 N. Milwaukee.

In dining news, Logan Square’s Longman & Eagle (2657 N. Kedzie) failed numerous health inspections, per the 312 Dining Diva blog and Chef Michael Carlson of Schwa (1466 N. Ashand) was arrested for setting off fireworks in the alley behind his restaurant.

Glad you are raising money for a new laptop as I enjoy the local news reports from this paper. But did you have insurance?

Yes, I have Renter’s Insurance through Farmer’s Insurance. Value of the depreciated in value laptop with software in it was $1280. After the $500 deductible, I received a check for $780, which was very helpful and I am so thankful I have renter’s insurance. The challenge is that I did 18 month no financing on my laptop that was stolen, and I still had a few hundred dollars left to finally pay that off (I thought i had theft protection on my best buy card but turned out i never elected that), and I also had to charge an entirely new laptop on my card and put $1200 on my card. When you’re a small operation as we are, these are BIG bills! :( The laptop fundraiser is to support that approx. $700 still lost as a result of theft and now on a charge card. We do not charge a subscription or a paywall and are entirely funded through advertising, so we totally appreciate the fact readers have chipped in… it’s the worse feeling in the world, putting out a virtual tip jar. I am very grateful to everyone who donated to it.
