Public Sculptures are Cool, but Can the People Have a Say in Where They’re Placed?

Michael Grucza’s piece, “A House for Sandy,” at the entrance of Wicker Park., the corner of Damen and Wicker Park Ave., is definitely cool, with a house inside of a house when the light shines just so, however, what isn’t cool about this sculpture (one of five that were recently installed in the neighborhood as part of an SSA #33/WPB initiative) is its location: smack dab in the middle of the sidewalk.

Granted, it’s not cool to be staring at your phone or shoegazing while walking, though if you do any of those two things, or perhaps just get lost in a train or thought, you might run into this piece of artwork.
