My excitement level rose for the opening night of Hooter Rangers: A Spicy Morphing Burlesque as I approached a decent size crowd outside of Gorilla Tango Theatre.  Having never been to any of their shows, I was unsure of what to expect.  How do you turn a staple from your childhood into a sexy show?  How do you incorporate getting down to your skivvies while maintaining a humorous storyline?  Were these scantily clad ladies going to make me seriously loathe myself and the half a box of cookies I ate earlier in the day?

With a small, unassuming stage and next to no props, the ladies of the show are tasked with creating a memorable experience for the sold out crowd.  As the show opened with an introduction from one of the gals, a reference was made to some issues (I’m assuming legal) they had earlier in the week and the changes that had to be made.  The ground work had been laid for what would be one of the most humorous aspects of the night.

Given that we were all there to see some skin and sexy dancing, the ladies wasted no time in providing fun numbers to songs that made me nostalgic for the simpler times of the Clinton era.  A tongue in cheek script, seamless transitions from dialog to dancing and sparkly costumes provide a suspension of disbelief that allows the audience to just laugh, enjoy, and cheer for some a** and t*tties.

After a solid hour of laughing, I left the theatre in the absolute best mood and with the utmost respect for these fine dames who get up there and entertain to the fullest.  The show had the few hiccups that is to be expected on an opening night but what really sold the show for me was how much fun and confidence all the performers exuded.  If this show is any indication of the other ones, they definitely have won over a new patron and then some.
