July 7-8th: Community Comes Together For 8th Annual West Fest!

For an 8th consecutive year, West Fest will commemorate the colorful character of Chicago’s diverse West Town with a jam-packed two-day celebration on Saturday, July 7th and Sunday, July 8th on Chicago Avenue between Damen and Wood.  With an impressive past turnout of 50,000, West Fest hopes to top that number with this year’s street party!

The fest, which runs from Noon to 10PM both days, will feature live music on two stages, a Kid Fest, Pet Fest, and participation from the most popular neighborhood restaurants and retailers. Atlanta “flower punk” band Black Lips will headline on Saturday night.

West Fest is locally planned and managed by the West Town Chamber of Commerce, which is why there’s such a focus on the event being ‘local’ from the tasty treats to the talent on display.  The West Town region thrives on the principles of community and the subsequent charm created by this diverse, yet united area.  Why should West Town be called one of the most popular up-and-coming neighborhoods in the city?  This is what West Fest would like to show you.  To piggy-back on the recent surge, the West Town Chamber of Commerce is also launching a ground-breaking West Town mobile app with a ‘hot deals’ feature – promoting top sales at area businesses – the same weekend as West Fest.

West Fest features rock bands of the highest caliber and def-defying DJs on two stages.

Kid Fest (Wolcott at Chicago): The annual Kids Fest, held in conjunction with West Fest, is Sat and Sun from noon to 6 pm.  The family friendly, fun event features dedicated kiddie entertainment, bounce houses, pony rides, face painters, carnival games, crafts and lots more.   All proceeds benefit the West Town Chicago Chamber of Commerce.  For more information, please call 312-850-9390.

Each year West Fest features another large ‘fest within a fest’ dedicated exclusively to pet product vendors, canine bathing pools, and plenty of doggie activities for charity.  This year, West Town’s own Doggy Style Pet Shop will be hosting a Suds For Strays dog wash.  For just $10, your dog can go from hot and dirty to cool and clean – with proceeds going to the involved charities.  There will also be other pup activities such as: agility courses (with “mud pit”) sponsored by Green Dog Inc, paw painting, doggie tattoos, canine gift bags and of course, free “paw cooling” stations.

West Fest features a plethora of neighborhood boutiques, restaurants and fine artists who set up temporary shop along Chicago Avenue – offering deals on everything from designer clothes to fresh food and ice-cold drinks.  There is a $5 donation requested for admittance to offset the costs of the event and to benefit the West Town Chamber of Commerce.  Hours of operation both days are noon to 10pm.
