Saturday Happenings, plus Wormhole 2.0!

The Pipeline was en route to check out the Footprints in Vertical Skies opening at Jackson Junge Gallery, 1389 N. Milwaukee Ave. last night, when we stopped into the Sprint store to find out why our charger wasn’t working anymore. Out of the corner of our eye, we noticed a really cute pair of pink rubber rain boots. It turned out that the rain boots belonged to a friend we hadn’t seen in awhile, and the one martini we’d impromptu-ly decided to have with said friend at nearby Blue Line, 1548 N. Damen, before heading out to the art show, suddenly turned into two, and then three, and…..well, we never made it to the gallery as intended. Sometimes the best times are the unplanned ones. Here’s a pic of J. with her brand new phone and an espresso martini.

We highly recommend the espresso martini if you need an energy boost, as well Blue Line’s Austin, Texas martini.  It has salt around its rim and is the closest you can get to a margarita-martini fusion.

Here’s what’s happening on our radar today, Saturday, March 3rd. Don’t see your happenings? Add them as a comment.

7AM – 11PM: It’s the The Wormhole’s very first day back in business after a hiatus which involved an extensive remodeling! Here’s a photo of the new interior we lifted from WH’s Facebook Page. It looks like the DeLorean car made famous in Back to the Future is now elevated, too.  Stop by 1462 N. Milwaukee Avenue today and check it out!

10AM-5PM: Free Wind Workshop or Planting at Kids Rule, 1534 N. Milwaukee. These events were happening in the month of February, and we’re assuming the same for March, but call the shop at 773-227-7525 to confirm that there’s an event before you go. Looking for a new toy or game? Kids Rule offers 10% off when you mention ‘pipeline.’

10AM-Noon; 1:30-3:30PM: Plant Propagation Workshop (Private residence; rsvp req.)

10AM-5PM: CHICAGO BIKE SWAP  ($10 admission; pay at door. Pulaski Park Fieldhouse, 1419 W. Blackhawk Ave.)

Per its website, at the Bike Swap, you can expect:

  • More than 50 bike shops, merchants, nonprofits and individuals offering great deals on bikes, parts, events and gear
  • Demos and presentations about family biking, winter bike commuting and more
  • Bike-themed games and activities
  • Discounted registration for Bike the Drive and the Four Star Bike Tour
  • Lunch by Goose Island Catering and coffee from Caribou
  • Rocking after-party for participants, vendors and friends

2-5PM: FREE Wine Tasting at Red and White Wine Shop, 1861 N. Milwaukee. While you’re there tasting the French Cabernets, stop by Red and White’s neighbor, Sterling Goss Fine Meats & Purveyors, 1845 N. Oakley, as per Sterling’s Facebook Page, they’ve recently added, “Loads of fresh sausage today! Linguica (Portuguese garlic), hot and mild Italian, smoked andoullie and lamb.”

Doors at 6:30, Show at 8PM: Music: A Magical Evening with Lila Downs, Congress Theater, 2135 N. Milwaukee. Pipeline has a limited quantity of Free Tickets to AMEw/LD, while supplies last, so text your first and last name to 773-960-3997 BEFORE 3PM today and we’ll add you to the will-call list. Read more about Downs, a Mexican-American singer-songwriter, and tonight’s show, which will include art by local artists, in the Reader.
