Like many new local business owners, Claudia Del Leola doesn’t just do business in the neighborhood. She’s a resident too. After walking past a long vacated storefront one too many times, she decided to ditch her career in real estate, go to beauty school, rent said vacant storefront, and follow her dream of owning and operating a beauty salon.

Sugar Fly Studio & Boutique at 2409 W. North, about one-third of a block west of Western, is a very bright and clean 3,000 sq. ft. space featuring couches, beauty stations for hair and nail treatments, as well as an eclectic selection of urban-inspired street wear and apparel like these quilted Bex Booties.

Just in case custom nail art isn’t enough flair to complete your funky outfit, there’s temporary lip tattoos available at the counter which last up to eight hours and can be applied in the salon post-purchase.

With no shortage of salons in the neighborhood- Jimmy Nails is just up the street on Western, and there’s another nail boutique a few blocks up, across from Cermak Foods– The Pipeline wondered how Sugar Fly will differentiate itself from the pack.

For starters, have you ever heard of a waterless manicure? According to Claudia, the technique is more sanitary and safer, preventing the spread of bacteria and infection while also saving 15 gallons of water per treatment.

Sugar Fly is also a unisex salon.  And then there’s the apparel.

It all sounds pretty ‘fly’ to us. Welcome, Sugar Fly!
