In a hot summer in a bad economy in a sweltering city, life has not been super great for those who’ve lost their lives or been victims of mobs. Life has also not been smooth sailing for the stationary deer featured in Andrea Jablonski’s installation, Urban Dwellers, which will be closed until further notice per an email announcement that just came in via Johalla Projects, which coordinated the exhibition.
Following is a cut and pasted italicized statement from Anna Cerniglia, along with a photo which was included with the sad news.
“One of the deer was stolen on Thursday, July 14th. Fortunately, it was soon found nearby. Considering that this happened while the other deer was undergoing repair after having been vandalized just 10 days earlier, Urban Dwellers will not be immediately reinstalled. 1st Ward Alderman Joe Moreno and Green Park Eco Garage Gallery’s Vicki Fuller and Grace LaJoy Little are working with us on the issue of appreciation and safety for public art in Wicker Park. We hope the community will work with us as well so that we can safely reinstall Urban Dwellers and bring other public art works to the neighborhood in the future.”
